Toulman Analysis

Once A Bully: Program for Bullies
  • Claim: There should be a program for the bully to help them out of bullying others.
  • Warrant: Bullies pick on others to make themselves feel better.
  • Reason: Bullies have internal problems that causes them to bully others.
  • Qualifier: Most bullies bully because they have power, family, or social issues that they try to handle on their own through bullying.
  • Rebuttal: We shouldn't focus on the bully but instead focus on who they are bullying. The bullies aren't the one killing themselves but the victims. If we begin to focus on the bully, we lose track of those who are being bullied. Also, bullies won't want any help. They will still bully even after going through a program.
  • Backing: If typed, "Why do people bully," on Google, almost all websites will say that the bully has some sort of internal problem that is causing them to bully. Catherine Bradshaw, a psychologist, said that must bullies want a sense of power and to keep their social groups closer and let out others. Research shows that an average or above average of bullies bully because they have self esteem problems. Research has also shown that if a child's parents are aggressive at home, then these children tend to be bullies later on in there teenager years.

Once A Bully

Many people cannot easily speak about their issues. It is easier to hide it inside and try to fix it themselves. The thoughts that may come to their mind is—no one can help me, they won’t understand, I’m fine. By not seeking the consoling of others, it can only make things worse especially if someone takes the emotions that they have hidden inside and bully others. Bullies, usually, bother others because of something that is going on in their lives that they can’t handle or don’t know how to handle. Without knowing what else to do, they take their emotions and hurt others to make themselves feel better for just that second. When have you heard someone say they were proud to have bullied someone? Have you heard of any bully that would stand up and shout out to the world that they bully people just for the heck of it? There is no bully that I know of that has every bullied because they thought it was the best thing in the world. People who bully usually have an issue that causes them to bully others.

The different situations that cause someone to bully are cultural cause, institutional cause, social issues, family issues, personal history, power issues, and provocative victims. All these situations are different and can affect someone to go out and bully others. With each of these situations, the best way to handle it is to bring that person to a trusted adult or anyone that can help them. But, how many people will admit they are going through an issue? Not many. How many people will go to an adult if they are having a problem? Not many again. There has to be a way to help the bully with their own problems and for these bullies to go out and bring other bullies to get help as well. This is where Once A Bully comes in.

Once A Bully will be a program that helps bullies with their problems and helps them to go out and help other bullies as well. This program will bring in bullies who have issues and don’t know how to handle it. Through the help of ex-bullies, therapist, and anyone who specialize in helping others, this program will let the bully acknowledge what they are doing isn’t the right way to handle what they are going through and helps them to find other productive ways of conquering their problems. It is understood that it isn’t easy to openly say, “I have a problem.” Bullying should never be the road to take to help yourself though. This program is there to only help and not condemn anyone. Bullying can be prevented and one way to start is to help the bully.

Tomulin Analysis

In Switch It Around, there is usage of data, warrants, and backing helps to enhance the blog on the topic that bullies should have their own programs and consoling to help them out of problems that cause them to bully. The data used in the blog is talking about a test that was run in the United States and United Kingdom that showed the third leading cause to teenage death is suicide and half of these suicides are due to bullying. The country should be trying there upmost hardest to not let this happen among the teenagers that are trying to make it in this world. But yet, bulling is occurring more and more. The warrant then comes in on how there are ways of help for the ones being bullied but none for the bully. Yes, the one being bullied is vulnerable and should be taken care of but the bully should have the same rights as well. The bully should be looked at as a person as well that is fighting battles and is causing battles to forget about the ones he or she is facing. Though not normal to take the enemy’s side, the warrant helps to bring in the main claim that is presented. Although there are many ways for someone to get help that is being, there is no real known program for the bullies. There should be a program that helps bullies out of bulling and with any internal issues they may have so that there will be less bullies and less suicides occurring. By starting at the root of the problem, the problem can be stopped all together. If there is no change in the bullies life that is causing the bully to bully others, then the bully will continue on and more lives will be taken. These are few backings that help support the main claim and the warrant. The blog shows that maybe the ways we are looking at bullying now isn’t the right ways and that there should be a change to help stop what is hurting the lives of many teenager around the world.

Audience Brainstorm

SEVEN POSSIBLE CHOICES

o Teenagers
o Teachers
o Parents
o Orginization managers
o Guidance Counsulers
o Criminal system
o Bullies

TOP THREE

o Orginization leaders because they would be the ones to launch a program that helps the bullies cope with their problems and not just focusing on the victim. Orginization leaders could help in building a strong program that really helps the bullies so that they won’t fall back into the same pattern of bullying and may help or stop another bully from bullying. A negative point to this is that they may not follow through with the program if it isnt successful.
o Bullies because they are the ones that are bullying. Appealing to them to figure out why they bully and why they push people to feel little about themself through a program can help decrease bullying, it can help the bully to improve in their life and help others who are the bully or someone being bullied. It could be hard to appeal to a bully since I am not a bully and far from it, I mean not be able to show myself creditable to the bully to understand his or her problems.
o Teenagers because they already learn that bullies bully because they want to feel superior. They see the bully as the victim when sometimes the bully could be the victim themself. Changing the thought of bullies a little and showing that they have problems as well coups help bring students to try and help both parties and continue on to do so. Appealing to students could be a problem in that they may not do what they heard. Bullying is talked about a lot and yet students still dont seem to care.it may be hard to appeal to them to make them stop and actually end bullying.

I CHOOSE.....
